Permanent Exterior Lighting Installation in Rensselaer
We mount app-controlled LED lights in a slim track along your roofline, so you can run warm white most nights and holiday colors when you want them. Before anything goes up, we check your fascia, your outdoor outlet and your Wi-Fi signal, because those decide whether the system works for years.
How permanent lighting works and who it suits
The system is a line of individually addressable LED nodes seated in an aluminum channel fastened beneath the drip edge or along the fascia. In daylight the track is barely visible from the street. After dark a phone app sets the color, brightness and pattern, and schedules can turn the lights on at dusk with nobody flipping a switch.
It suits you if the November ladder climb has gotten old, if clip-on strands keep dying in the same place, or if you want gentle accent light for curb appeal all year. It will not fix a sagging gutter line or rotted fascia. If we see either one, you hear about it before the quote, since track fastened to soft wood works loose after one or two winters of ice and snow.
What the installation includes
Roofline survey and measurement
We walk every run, measure each eave and peak, and note corners, gables and gaps where the track has to jump. That count sets how many nodes and power injections the layout needs.
Low-profile aluminum track
The LEDs sit inside a channel that is color-matched as closely as possible to your trim. It screws into solid fascia or mounts behind the gutter line so it sheds water and stays out of sight.
Weather-rated LEDs and wiring
Nodes are sealed against moisture, and connections are made with outdoor-rated connectors and drip loops so water runs off instead of following the wire into a joint.
Power supply and controller placement
The low-voltage power supply plugs into a GFCI-protected outdoor receptacle, and the controller goes where it holds a steady Wi-Fi connection. Any wire passing through a soffit is routed cleanly and sealed.
App setup and a walkthrough
Before we leave, we connect the controller to your network, load a few starter scenes and show you how to set schedules, change colors and group zones.

Signs it is time for permanent lighting
- Strings fail every season
- One dead bulb or a corroded plug takes out a whole section of clip-on lights. Addressable nodes on a sealed track avoid most of those failure points.
- Ladder work feels riskier each year
- Hanging lights on icy shingles in a Capital Region December is how people get hurt. Permanent lighting goes up once and stays up.
- Clips are damaging shingles or gutters
- Plastic clips pried under shingle tabs can crack them in the cold. A fastened track leaves the roofing alone.
- You want light beyond the holidays
- Warm white along the eaves lights walkways and entries, and an app schedule handles it every night of the year.
How the job runs
- 1
Free quote by phone, then a site visit
You call, we ask about your house and goals, and we schedule a time to look at the roofline in person. Most of the diagnosis happens here.
- 2
Find what could cause trouble
We probe fascia for soft spots, test the outdoor outlet and check Wi-Fi strength where the controller will sit. If the outlet is missing or on an overloaded circuit, we explain what needs to change before install day.
- 3
Written layout and quote
You get a plan showing each run, where power enters and where the controller goes, along with a line-item price.
- 4
Install day
We lay out the track, fasten it, set the LEDs, make the connections and test every node before cleaning up the work area. Most single-family homes take a day.
- 5
Setup and handoff
We pair the app, set your first schedule and show you how everything works.
What changes the cost
The price depends on how much roofline you have and how hard it is to reach and power. We measure at the house instead of estimating from a photo, so your number matches your home.
- Length of roofline
- Extra eaves and peaks call for more track, more nodes and more labor. Rooflines with lots of corners add cutting and joining.
- Reach and height
- One-story eaves are quick. Second-story peaks, steep roofs or plantings under the roofline take longer to set up.
- Runs and power
- Long runs need added power injection points, and if no usable outdoor outlet sits near the controller, that has to be sorted out first.
- State of the trim
- Sound trim takes the track as is. Boards that are damaged or uneven need work before mounting, and the quote calls that out.
Permanent lighting questions
- Will the track be visible during the day?
- Very little. It is a narrow aluminum channel tucked under the drip edge or along the fascia, matched to your trim as closely as we can. Most neighbors only notice it once the lights come on.
- How do the lights handle snow and ice?
- The nodes are sealed and the track sheds water, so snow sitting on the roof does not reach the electronics. We plan mounting points to stay clear of where ice tends to build at the eaves, which keeps the track from being pried loose.
- Do I need a new outlet?
- Often not. The power supply plugs into a standard GFCI outdoor receptacle. If there is none near a good controller spot, we tell you during the site visit so it can be added before install day.
- What if my Wi-Fi does not reach outside?
- We test signal strength where the controller will go. If it is weak, we look at moving the controller or adding a simple range extender, so the app connects reliably instead of dropping out.
- Can I still do holiday colors?
- Yes. Each node is individually addressable, so you can run red and green in December, orange in October and warm white the rest of the year, all from the app.
